Upper Delta Fall Trip

A trip to the Indian Mounds and the Giant Cypress

160 US dollars
Live Oak Landing

Service Description

A six hour trip with two hikes through the swamp. We will leave from Live Oak Landing at 10 AM and return at 4 PM. During the trip, we will visit Mound Island and tour the ancient Indian mounds (up to 81 feet tall!) and we will go to Jessamine Bayou and hike in to the giant cypress. This is a redwood sized tree, 32 feet around. You'll want boots to get to the big tree. (See the picture, with everyone standing in the water.) October is about as dry as it ever gets around the big cypress. You can almost make it to the tree without getting wet. In October and early November, the water is usually just ankle deep and only a little gooey. The Ladies Tress orchid is blooming everywhere. We will also creep around in some beautiful creeks. We will visit an old flatboat like the pioneers used, and see a steam donkey. More on what a steam donkey is when you see it. These will be great trips, with the fall color hitting its peak.
